Eye Doctor in Hawaii Offers Custom Cataract Surgery

Honolulu, HI — According to the National Eye Institute, over 50% of Americans either have cataracts, or have undergone surgery to remove cataracts, by the time they reach age 80. Hawaii LASIK surgeon Dr. Alan Faulkner says continuing advancements in vision correction have propelled the art of cataract surgery to new heights. He says his practice now has the ability to combine the LenSx® Femtosecond Laser system with Optiwave Refractive Analysis (ORA), resulting in what he believes to be one of the most customized combinations of cataract surgery and IOL implantation available. By using the state-of-the-art technologies together, Dr. Faulkner says he feels he is furthering his goal of providing patients with the highest quality of eye care possible.

In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Faulkner’s Hawaii eye care practice offers a comprehensive span of treatments and procedures including refractive lens exchange, Visian ICL, and PRK among others. He and his staff provide years of experience while utilizing the latest, most effective surgical techniques. When possible, Dr. Faulkner says he believes patients deserve to undergo exclusive procedures adapted to address the specific desires of each individual. He adds that the combination of LenSx® and ORA falls in line with his philosophy because it affords him the opportunity to perform cataract surgery and implant IOLs with utmost accuracy to help patients achieve their vision goals.

During cataract surgery, the LenSx® Femtosecond Laser enables Dr. Faulkner to remove cataracts in what he believes to be one of the most highly-effective methods available. By utilizing computer-generated imaging and the system’s laser energy, Dr. Faulkner is able to follow the unique dimensions of his patients’ eyes and extract each cataract with customized precision. Once the cataract is removed from the eye, an intraocular lens (IOL) is inserted based on previous measurements to improve the patient’s vision. Dr. Faulkner says ORA technology provides him the ability to employ real-time analysis of the eye in order to verify the proper selection of IOLs during the actual procedure. He adds that the exactness of the ORA measurements often reduces the possibility of further vision adjustments weeks after surgery.

Dr. Faulkner says he is excited for the opportunity to offer cataract surgery patients such an advanced procedural option, adding that he hopes word will spread so more people can benefit from the effective results. He says he will continue striving to better his practice by consistently making efforts to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Faulkner also adds that patients interested in any kind of eye care should always make certain to consult with a board-certified ophthalmologist. He says board-certified ophthalmologists have the extra experience and training needed to ensure the safest, most ethical treatment while providing patients with the optimum level of care.
